PSAP statistics for usage of cell phone Button Guards to reduce accidental 911 calls

PSAP (Public Safety Answering Point) are seeing great results from button guards.

Pinellas County 911 button guard program began March 22, 2004 thru present July 26 04. June netted a stunning 16.1% reduction of accidental 911 cell calls for open and abandoned lines.

Total 911 cell calls for June 2004 was 22,269 and accidental (open/abandoned) totaled 6,503 calls. That number equals 29.2% accidental calls versus 34.8% at the start of the program.

Calculating the total accidental cell calls only (not the total of all 911 cell calls), 29.2% divided by 34.8% equals 83.9% of the March level or 16.1% less accidental cell calls to be answered in June, this in only 3 months.

Two additional PSAPS (911 centers) are now involved in the button guard public distribution program and their stats will be forthcoming.
